About this Learning Opportunity

This Series hosted by, Adelee Penner, will continue to provide opportunities for Independent School Leadership to connect, share and learn together.  Each session will have leaders from Alberta Independent Schools sharing their personal experiences and perspectives on the topic.  Each topic is connected to and informed by the Alberta Leadership Quality Standards (LQS). 

September 27th, 4:30 - 6:30 p.m.  
Title:  Fostering Effective Relationships
Description:  A leader builds positive working relationships with members of the school community and the local community.
Generative Dialogue with Principals of Independent Schools to share how they attend to indicators a-j in their context.  Each leader will share how they attend to this part of the LQS.  

October 25th, 4:30 - 6:30 p.m.
Title:  Modeling Commitment to Professional Learning.
Description:  A leader engages in career-long professional learning and ongoing critical reflection to identify opportunities for improving leadership, teaching and learning.

November 29th, 4:30 - 6:30 p.m.
Title: Embodying Visionary Leadership
Description:  A leader collaborates with the school community to create and implement a shared vision for student success, engagement, learning and well-being.

December 20th, 4:30 - 6:30 p.m.  
Title: Leading a Learning Community
Description:  A leader nurtures and sustains a culture that supports evidence-informed teaching and learning.

January 24th, 4:30 - 6:30 p.m.
Title:  Education Law in Independent Schools in Alberta.
Description:  Presentation from a lawyer about the Independent School’s Legal Context.  Including recent cases to be aware of and ways to be proactive as a leader.

February 28th, 4:30 - 6:30 p.m. 
Title: Supporting the Application of Foundational Knowledge about First Nations, Métis and Inuit 
Description:   A leader supports the school community in acquiring and applying foundational knowledge about First Nations, Métis and Inuit for the benefit of all students.

March 27th, 4:30 - 6:30 p.m.
Title:  Providing Instructional Leadership
Description:  A leader ensures that every student has access to quality teaching and optimum learning experiences.

April 24th, 4:30 - 6:30 p.m.
Title:  Developing Leadership Capacity
Description:  A leader provides opportunities for members of the school community to develop leadership capacity and to support others in fulfilling their educational roles.

Title: Managing School Operations and Resources
Description:  A leader effectively directs operations and manages resources.

June 19th, 4:30 - 6:30 p.m.
Title:  Understanding and Responding to the Larger Societal Context 
Description:   A leader understands and appropriately responds to the political, social, economic, legal and cultural contexts impacting schools and the school authority.
