If you believe that collaboration can transform both schools and work…

If you want to build a network with others who are working to implement/pilot the new curriculum ….

If you want to nudge your thinking in new ways by exploring new perspectives…

If you want to actively contribute to a plan for how the curriculum can look in a classroom next year…

Then this is the institute for you!

Rather than a traditional “sit and get” experience, the summer institute is designed as a week-long program to help you map out next year, learn more about how the curriculum has been designed, examine learning outcomes and design assessment to support student learning.

We will be using the lens of Universal Design for Learning and Understanding by Design to help guide our planning.  We will be looking at ways to embed Indigenous perspectives into our work.

You can look forward to rolling up your sleeves with your peers to create a plan forward.

About the Facilitator

Adelee Penner comes to ERLC having most recently served as an Assistant Superintendent of Schools. Adelee started her career in Manitoba and moved to Alberta in 2005. Her career has evolved over the years through working in several school jurisdictions, in both the private and public system, and from working for Alberta Education supporting school systems in Field Services. Adelee is a passionate lifelong learner. Using the provocation from Seth Godin, "When was the last time you did something for the first time?", Adelee works with others to create a culture for learning that is comfortable taking risk, trying new things and considers alternate perspectives.

Nicole is currently the curriculum coordinator for Sturgeon Public School Division. She started her career in Calgary in 2007 where she taught elementary through to high school before moving to the Edmonton region in 2018. As an educator, Nicole sees her time with students as an opportunity to explore perspectives and engage with students in deep critical thinking. A passionate life long learner, she holds Bachelor of Arts degrees in Political Science, International Relations, and, most recently, she completed her Masters degree from the University of Calgary, focusing her studies on the role that education plays in Truth and Reconciliation. Her biggest teachers in life have been her two children, and she enjoys spending time with them in nature, learning from the land.
