About this Learning Opportunity

What’s new with Google? How can we refine our current use of Google tools? What other tools align well with our Google ecosystem, augmenting how we can bring learning to life this new school year with our digital-age students?

A new year creates new opportunity to hit the ground running with organized Google tools and processes ready to go in your instructional toolkit! A little investment of time getting set up now not only is going to save you a ton of time down the road but also can help give you greater clarity monitoring student growth over time, an easier workflow, and greater confidence knowing you can more mindfully flex your learning environment to engage all learners that much better.

Join Janet Bell in this three-hour session, with Janet informally available in the afternoon to answer questions as you practice new skills. Leave all set for the year ahead with practical processes and useful resources in your Drive ready to go!

Note:  Participants will receive a hyperdoc of resources addressing each of the topics below, along with a Wakelet of related resources that will continue to support you in envisioning new applications and integrations of these tools over the months ahead.

Although we can do so much with Google Workspace, the additional functionality that Google for Education Partners (and other reputable companies) bring to these tools is not to be overlooked. Amp up student cognitive engagement by leveraging these cool tools, used across many Alberta school districts.

  • We’ll start with Wakelet, a social bookmarking app - but that’s just the tip of its functionality, as we’ll see - that integrates particularly well with apps such as Google Classroom, Twitter, Flipgrid, and Youtube
  • Get really familiar with not-to-be-missed expressive tools, such as Mote, Screencastify, and Flipgrid, all of which help you and your students communicate naturally
  • See what students are thinking via text interactions, drawings, mindmapping tools, quizzes and more, then build collaborative conversations by using the Pear Deck addon in Google Slides
  • Create asynchronous lessons from scratch or from online sources, providing space for students to pause and complete questions as they progress through your Edpuzzle video lessons
  • Construct lessons that combine Google Docs, Slides, PDFs, assessments and more into a single package that can quickly and easily be made interactive and annotatable, and be delivered synchronously or asynchronously. Integrate games-based templates, formative assessments, group brainstorming activities, and more into your Lumio lesson. (Lumio is the new name of the ever-evolving SMART Learning Suite.)

It is strongly recommended that registered participants of this session, register for session:  21-TI-409 - Back-to-School EdTech Bootcamp - Google Workspace for Education.
