Edmonton Public School Principal Education and Development Program 2009-2010 Student Achievement Project by Karen Keats Whelan who is currently principal of Elmwood Elementary School.  This project used the social studies poster created by the Edmonton Regional Learning Consortium in collaboration with Alberta Education and other stakeholders as an anchor piece for the project.  The research question for the project was:  How can children’s literature be applied as a research-based best practice across the curricula to engage both students and teachers in deep learning and collaborative work in relation to the 21st. century literacies embedded in the social studies curriculum?
