We are All Treaty People

How is every citizen in Alberta involved in a treaty? Those First Nations in Alberta who signed treaties did so "nation to nation," which involves and implicates all Canadian citizens to this day. The digital resource Walking Together: First Nations, Métis and Inuit Perspectives in Curriculum from Alberta Education provides information from First Nations, Métis and Inuit (FNMI) individuals who speak about treaties and rights from their perspectives and experiences. They address these timely questions: Who are the treaty people? Why do these treaties still exist? Who are Métis people today and how do they fit in? Carla Badger is from the Sucker Creek First Nation and is currently seconded with Alberta Education in the Cross Curriculum Infusion branch as an FNMI Perspectives Curriculum Manager. For many years Carla taught in the High Prairie School Division, working closely with many FNMI students.
