About this learning opportunity

Are you, as a classroom teacher, thinking about moving into a formal leadership role, but not yet ready to take that step? Do you want to know more about, and experience leadership from the classroom level, to better understand and decide if a formal leadership position is for you? Then this series will be a perfect fit!

This 6 part series will deepen your understanding of the competencies outlined in the Leadership Quality Standard, through both the professional learning that this series offers you, but also through some real-life experiences/applications that will help you better understand what leadership is, how it feels and if you are ready to apply for and take on a formal leadership role.

This series will begin with a face to face session, that will focus on building relationships with your aspiring leadership cohort, some self reflection (eg. What are my strengths as a leader? What are areas for growth for me as a leader? How do I work with others? etc.), and an overview of the series. The subsequent sessions will focus on:

Session 2 - webinar/zoom: Defining Instructional Leadership
Session 3 - webinar/zoom: Time Management and Visionary Leadership
Session 4 - webinar/zoom: Building a Positive School Culture
Session 5 - webinar/zoom: Inclusive Learning Environments
Session 6 - Wrap up.

Through-out the series you will be invited to apply/demonstrate leadership in one or more of the above areas at your school. You will be encouraged to reflect on your leadership by writing in a personal reflective portfolio, with your school principal, as well with members of this aspiring leadership cohort. As a final reflection, you will be invited to reflect on/write about whether or not you will pursue a formal leadership position, and if yes, describe how you will make a difference as a leader in your district, your vision, your strengths, and your passion related to education.

This session is being offered on a cost recovery basis.
