Who should attend

School Teams and Jurisdiction Leaders involved in MFWHSR

About this learning opportunity

We encourage the following individuals from each participating school and school jurisdiction to attend a meeting:

  • The Principal and the MFWHSR Team, including administration and teachers, of each participating school (maximum of five (5) participants/school)
  • A jurisdictional representative involved in supporting MFWHSR

This day will focus on three specific questions:

  1. What does it really mean and look like to personalize learning?
  2. How does a PBL pedagogy support the foundational principles?
  3. Why is it important to shift the way we assess and evaluate learning when we teach in this way?

The day will begin with an interactive session led by Alberta Education's Leadership Excellence Branch on How is Student-Centred Learning Reflected in the Professional Practice Standards. Time will be provided for schools to reflect on their current practice.

The second part of the day will provide time for school participants to engage in focused discussion on each of the three areas from the morning. The goal being to learn from one another about things other school authorities are doing well, share about the things they are doing well, hear about barriers and challenges, and think together about creative solutions/hear creative solutions others are working on. This is also the opportunity to make personal connections with other schools for future conversations to support school plans.

Participants will be grouped according to size of school first and then according to the Phase (number of years school has been involved in High School Redesign project) that their school is in with High School Redesign project.

The day will close with participants returning to their school teams and sharing back to the group what they heard or learned in their breakouts. They will respond to the prompt: “How will we create the conditions for success in our own redesign related to these 3 topics?”

This learning opportunity is being provided through funding from Alberta Education.
