About this learning opportunity

Want to bring American Ninja Warrior, Spartan Race, and Tough Mudder to your PE Classroom? Created by Professional Obstacle Course Racer and NSCA-CPT Eddie Kovel, the Playout Obstacle Course Race (OCR) Professional Development Program empowers PE teachers to create fun, high-intensity Obstacle Course Races (OCRs) for their students using classroom equipment.

As part of your professional development, you will receive Playout: The OCR Training Card Game, a fitness card game that contains sport-specific exercises that simulate what it feels like to run through the various terrain and obstacles found in a mud run or OCR. No mud, fire, and barbed-wire required! You will learn how to set up obstacle courses, play a variety of different games and team-building activities with your courses and cards, and host field days and community-wide competitions to fundraise for your school.

You will be asked to bring a piece of equipment from your classroom that you would like to add to the obstacle course. For example: hula hoops, basketballs, speed stacking cups, cornhole, etc. Please note: If you bring equipment such as basketballs or cups, please make sure to bring enough for 3-4 people to use at once.

Prepare for a full day of active learning!

This session is being offered on a cost recovery basis.

About the facilitator(s)

Eddie Kovel has always been passionate about getting others to play and exercise, and has loved sports and card games since early childhood.  During his sophomore year at Emory University, he studied abroad in India.  Without a gym or fitness equipment, Eddie learned calisthenics, yoga, and martial arts, and liberated himself from gyms forever.  He realized: "Why do I need to workout, if I can just PLAYOUT!?"  Upon graduating, Eddie chose to forge his own path, starting a movement to get people fit by making it fun and creating the world's best exercise card game.  Eddie owns and operates Playout LLC out of Atlanta, GA.  He spends much of his time training physical education teachers in how to use his card games to get millions of students around the country excited about exercise.  Eddie is also a NSCA Certified Personal Trainer, obstacle course designer, coach of the Emory Men's Lacrosse Team, and coach of the first college Obstacle Course Racing team.
