About this learning opportunity
Are your oral French skills feeling a little rusty? Could you benefit from some practice this summer but don't have the time or resources to travel to Quebec or France? Then these French camps may be for you!
Intended to be flexible enough to fit almost anyone's summer schedule, the two day, three day or combined five day camps organized at two different levels offer maximum choice. All camps embody a philosophy best defined by Dr. Marcia Tate: "The person doing the most talking is the person doing the most learning". Come prepared to parler français!
Adults of all French language proficiency levels, can successfully partake in all activities. The only prerequisites: some background in French language learning and a willingness to take risks and accept mistakes. A sense of humour would also be an asset as these low-stress, highly interactive days offer plenty of occasions for laughter.
The camp will focus on oral language skills, (listening and speaking), and participants should expect to hear and speak French all day. Effective second language teaching practices will be modeled by the facilitators, so teachers can start their school year with a repertoire of strategies and activities for use at any grade level!
To select the camp or camps right for you, first determine the level that best describes your French oral language proficiency, and then choose the most convenient dates. Should you have any questions about choosing camps, please contact Michelle De Abreu or Mark Babin at mababin@telus.net.
Level 1: I can recognize familiar words and very basic phrases concerning familiar, concrete situations when people speak clearly and slowly. I can ask and answer simple questions in areas of immediate need or on very familiar topics with some help from the listener.
Level 2: I can understand phrases and familiar vocabulary related to relevant situations. I can express my ideas in simple exchanges of information related to familiar topics and activities.
