Learning for All – Assessment Practices that Boost Achievement

On March 19, 2015, over 90 educators met to attend an engaging and informative professional learning opportunity, facilitated by Sandra Herbst – CEO of Connect2Learning.

This session was current, relevant and timely, as Sandra focused on assessment through the lens of the Ministerial Order on Student Learning. She guided the group in making connections between assessment and literacy, numeracy and Alberta's ten cross-curricular competencies. Sandra shared a range of practical and easy to use formative assessment strategies and tools to support learning in our own classrooms.

We also examined strategies that help learners provide feedback to themselves and others, to collect evidence to prove that they have learned, and to identify next steps in their learning. There were ample opportunities for us to reflect on our learning – both individually and with others. Sandra used "real" stories, videos and artifacts that helped make the key concepts covered come alive.

This comment from one of the participants sums the day up beautifully: "Your session today was amazing and we all enjoyed listening to you. It was great to finally see some strategies that I can easily implement in my class."
